Counseling for Children
Is your child having a hard time adjusting to the world around them? Have you noticed changes in their behavior, mood, or interactions with others? Children, like adults, can experience emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and difficulty coping with life transitions. However, they may not always have the words to express what they’re feeling.
At Healthy Minds, we offer compassionate and developmentally appropriate therapy to help children navigate their emotions and build healthy coping strategies. Common concerns we address in therapy include:
- Anxiety, fears, and excessive worry
- Sadness, low mood, or withdrawal
- Difficulty with attention or focus
- Behavioral challenges at home or school
- Low self-esteem or confidence
- Family changes such as divorce or relocation
- Loss or grief
- Social difficulties or bullying
Therapy with children often involves play, storytelling, creative expression, and age-appropriate techniques that allow them to explore and process their feelings in a safe and supportive space. We also work closely with parents and caregivers to provide guidance, build on family strengths, and support positive relationships at home.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. Together, we can help your child build resilience, express themselves more openly, and thrive emotionally and socially.

Individual Therapy
At Healthy Minds, we recognize that while the pandemic may no longer dominate headlines, many of its emotional and psychological effects are still very real and present. The grief, trauma, and disconnection that emerged during this time didn’t disappear—they’ve taken root in ways that continue to shape how we feel, think, and relate to ourselves and others. You may be noticing:
- Ongoing anxiety or fear about your health or the well-being of your loved ones
- Difficulty focusing, low motivation, or emotional exhaustion
- Increased irritability, sadness, or a sense of hopelessness
- Grief related to loss—of loved ones, jobs, stability, or milestones
- Struggles with reentry or reconnecting socially
- Conflict in relationships or changes in family dynamics
- A general sense of feeling stuck or unsure of how to move forward
Our therapeutic approach supports individuals and families in processing collective trauma, rebuilding a sense of stability, and developing practical tools for managing emotions. We integrate evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, relational therapy, and trauma-informed care—all while holding space for your unique experience and cultural background.
Whether you’re a parent trying to support your child’s adjustment, an individual navigating burnout or grief, or someone simply trying to make sense of how life has changed, you are not alone. Healing takes time, and we are here to walk beside you as you regain your footing and reconnect with what brings you strength.
Your experience is valid. Your healing matters.

Psychosocial Oncology
Dr. Reyes has dedicated a significant part of her clinical career to the field of psychosocial oncology, providing emotional and psychological support to individuals and families impacted by cancer. She has worked with clients at every stage of the cancer journey—from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship, recurrence, and end-of-life care.
Her work includes supporting not only those directly diagnosed with cancer but also caregivers, partners, and family members, who often carry their own emotional burden while trying to remain strong for others. Dr. Reyes helps caregivers process the stress, guilt, and grief that can accompany their role, while also creating space for their own healing and self-care.
She also works closely with cancer survivors, helping them adjust to life after treatment, navigate ongoing uncertainty, and process the physical and emotional aftermath of their experience. Her approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and deeply attuned to the complex intersection of emotional, medical, and existential concerns that come with serious illness.
In addition, Dr. Reyes has extensive training in grief, loss, and bereavement, supporting clients in making meaning of their losses and finding a path forward grounded in resilience and connection.

Evaluations
As a school psychologist, Dr. Reyes offers comprehensive psychoeducational assessments designed to provide a thorough understanding of a child’s cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioral functioning. These evaluations are particularly valuable for identifying learning differences, attention-related challenges (such as ADHD), emotional or behavioral concerns, and developmental delays that may be impacting a child’s success at school, at home, or in social situations.
Using evidence-based tools and culturally responsive practices, each assessment is carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of the child or adolescent. The purpose is not only to determine whether a diagnosis is present, but to build a comprehensive picture of the child’s strengths, challenges, and overall learning profile.
Benefits of Psychoeducational Assessments :
- Identification of learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia
- Evaluation for ADHD and other attention-related difficulties
- Assessment of cognitive abilities including memory, processing speed, and reasoning skills
- Analysis of academic achievement and any gaps between potential and performance
- Understanding of emotional or behavioral concerns that may affect learning and functioning
- Documentation to support school accommodations (such as IEPs or 504 Plans)
- Guidance for effective interventions, support services, and enrichment opportunities
- Enhanced collaboration among caregivers, educators, and other professionals
Dr. Reyes views each assessment as not only diagnostic but also strategic and empowering—providing families with practical recommendations to support their child’s development both academically and emotionally. She works closely with parents to explain results in a compassionate and understandable way, and when appropriate, offers consultation with teachers, school teams, or related professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Whether families are seeking clarity around a child’s learning style, addressing concerns about school performance, or trying to better understand behavioral or emotional challenges, a psychoeducational assessment with Dr. Reyes can serve as a powerful tool to guide next steps and unlock a child’s full potential.
